This short is a combination of three previously separate short experimental films — asleep, asleep/Awake, and Awake — made during my time in Ziad Hamzeh's Directing Image and Sound course at Emerson College.
Together, these shots depict a struggle of an individual's attempt to escape life by separating himself from reality through VR. Then, as he finds his virtual world falling apart — a computer glitch, maybe — he struggles to separate from from his virtual self. This film — this Sad Song for the Simulation asks "What will happen when we can no longer differentiate the real from the virtual — when we begin to merge these worlds."
